salim2bbachiSalim Bachi (b. 1971) is an Algerian novelist who grew up in Annaba, in the east of Algeria. His first novel, Le Chien d’Ulysse, was published to critical acclaim by Editions Gallimard in 2001 and won the prestigious Goncourt du Premier Roman. His other works include the historical novel La Kahéna (2003), Tuez-les tous (2006) – which tells the story of the September 11 attacks through the eyes of a perpetrator – Le silence de Mahomet (2008) and Le Consul (2014). In 2017, Bachi published Dieu, Allah, moi et les autres, an account of his encounter with religion, from growing up in Algeria to becoming a writer and finding refuge in books and literature. His novels are taught on French and postcolonial literature courses across the US and Europe.
